Diwali Entrance Lighting: How to Light Your Gate, Steps and Path with Solar Lights

Your entrance is the first thing guests see at Diwali. With solar lights you can light the gate, steps and path without any wiring, and without a rise in your electricity bill. Here is a simple plan you can finish in an afternoon.

1. The gate pillar

A light on each gate pillar frames the entrance. The ENER-J solar gate light for pillars comes with a remote and an IP65 weatherproof rating, so it can stay outside through the festival. Place it where the panel gets direct daylight.

2. The path and the steps

Mark the path with pathway lights set into the ground, and light the steps with deck or fence lights. The solar pathway light is rated for a car to roll over it, and the solar deck and fence light switches between warm and cool white. Both are Rs 499. Read our pathway, deck and fence lights guide for placement tips.

3. The balcony and the garden

Hang solar string lights along the balcony railing or across a garden tree for a warm festive glow. See our guide to choosing solar string lights.

4. Add marigolds and diyas

Solar lights make the base glow. Marigold garlands on the door, diyas on the steps and a rangoli at the entrance finish the look.

Tips for the best result

  1. Fit the lights a day or two early so they charge fully in sunlight before Diwali night.
  2. Keep the solar panels in open daylight and wipe them clean.
  3. Use a mix of warm white and colour so the entrance does not look flat.
