Solar Strip Lights: How to Choose the Right One for Your Home
Solar strip lights need no wiring or electricity. Learn what to check before buying: length, battery, panel, waterproofing and remote control.
Solar strip lights charge in sunlight and switch on at night, so you can decorate a balcony, fence, garden or boundary wall without running a single cable. Here is what to check before you buy.
1. Length and number of LEDs
Measure the area first. Our 10m solar LED strip light (T478) suits balconies, fences and small gardens, while the 20m solar LED strip light (T479) covers longer boundary walls and larger outdoor areas.
2. Battery and solar panel
A bigger battery keeps the strip lit for more hours, and a larger panel recharges it faster. The T478 has a 6Ah battery and the T479 a 12Ah battery with a 12W solar panel. Place the panel where it gets direct sun for several hours.
3. Waterproofing
Outdoor strips should be IP65 or better so rain and dust do not damage them. Both strips above are IP65 rated.
4. Colours and remote control
RGB strips let you change colour and mode from a remote, which is popular for festivals, parties and garden decoration.
Frequently asked questions
Do solar strip lights work on cloudy days?
They still charge, but more slowly. For best results, position the panel in the sunniest spot available.
Can I cut a solar strip light?
Check the product page for cut points before cutting, as cutting in the wrong place can stop it working.
