FCOB vs Standard LED Strip Lights: Which Should You Stock?
FCOB strips give a seamless line of light with no visible dots. Compare them with standard strips before you stock.
Standard SMD strips show individual dots of light. FCOB (flip chip on board) strips pack the LEDs so closely that the light looks like one continuous line.
Look
FCOB gives a smooth, dot-free glow, ideal for cove lighting, shelves and kitchens where the strip may be seen. Standard strips are fine where the strip is hidden behind a lip or diffuser.
Price
Standard strips cost less and suit budget projects. FCOB costs more but is easier to sell as a premium upgrade.
Flexibility and installation
Both are cut-to-length with adhesive backing. Always check the cut marks, power supply and voltage for the length you are installing.
